The Situation

Inspired by the desire to create a church that celebrates differences and elevates the voices of those often marginalized, Cara and a group of like-minded individuals decided to start something new. In 2021, Cara became the lead pastor of All Saints Los Angeles in Santa Monica, CA, where the focus is on curiosity, questioning, and reimagining church to align more closely with the teachings of Jesus. Drawing from global traditions, the church’s weekly practices and yearly celebrations, including a Pentecost-inspired drag brunch, challenge church "norms" and emphasize community, welcoming and amplifying those who are often marginalized in society.

The Impact

Through partnerships with community organizations serving marginalized groups, All Saints LA connected with thousands who were hesitant about traditional church spaces. In 2022, they hosted their first drag brunch, Drag Me to Church, which was a huge success and enabled the church to expand its staff. All Saints continues to collaborate with groups dedicated to systemic change in housing, combating institutionalized racism, supporting homeless youth, and celebrating the queer community through local events.

Service & social impact all year long

All Saints LA follows a spiritual rhythm practiced globally for centuries, infusing it with a unique focus on service and loving one’s neighbor. Shifting the emphasis from self to others, their calendar highlights seasonal opportunities to support marginalized communities. Through intentional service, prayer, and advocacy, they dedicate each month to targeted areas of change, recognizing Disability Pride Month, Native American Heritage Month, Earth Justice Month, Black History Month, Women's History Month, Refugee Awareness Month, and more. Committed to continuous learning, All Saints uplifts voices with valuable insights, deepening understanding of self, community, and how God moves through love in the world.
